Cancun, Q.R. — An area of approximately 60 square meters of brush was consumed by fire Wednesday night near several residential areas. Local firemen were called to the entrance of the Real Valencia subdivision after an intentional burn became out of control.
Nearby residents returning home for the night saw the burning brush outside their residential communities. Emergency 9-1-1 sent Cancun firemen in response to the reports.
The fire was located near the residential areas of Arco Vial, Villas Otoch Paraíso, Real Valencia and Paraíso Maya subdivisions. By the time firemen arrived, the fire had already reached the road.
Two city fire trucks were used to put out the brush fire. Civil Protection were also at the scene where the flames quickly spread due to the wind and dry grass. Personnel spent nearly an hour extinguishing the blaze.
Civil Protection said they will revisit the site to make sure the fire does not flare up again. The fire was started by the burning of brush and garbage that became out of control.
