Only material losses reported in late night Cancun fire

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen responded to the Tuesday night report of a business fire in SM 63. The fire was reported started inside a stainless steel factory along Chichen Itza Avenue.

At the scene firemen found the inside of the building burning and an argon gas cylinder near open flames. According to a statement by the Cancun fire department, they were able to remove the gas cylinder for cooling, preventing an explosion.

There were no injuries reported in the late night fire. Cancun firemen were assisted by member of Civil Protection who kept the area clear while firemen did their job.

In a statement, Bomberos Cancun said “our units responded to a fire in the vicinity of SM. 63, Chichen Itza Avenue, a commercial premises used as a stainless steel furniture manufacturing factory.

“During the emergency, in addition to putting out the fire, an argon gas cylinder used in the welding processes was cooled.

“Thanks to the rapid intervention of our firefighting team, the situation was brought under control without any victims. We also thank the support of the elements of Civil Protection Cancun and Public Safety who provided security in the perimeter. We thank the community for their support and we remember the importance of having security measures in workshops and factories.”

Authorities are still working to determine a cause for the fire.
