Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun hotel fire that started in the laundry room left only material damage. On Friday, authorities reported on the fire that caused the hotel to be evacuated.
According to Cancun Police, more than 200 people were ushered out of the building and onto a green area where they waited for firemen to arrive. The laundry room fire happened in the JW Marriot Hotel at Kilometer 14.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone Thursday.
Firemen extinguished flames while Civil Protection reviewed the facilities.
In a brief statement, Protección Civil Cancún reported on the late day incident. “Fire is reported at the JW Marriott Hotel in the laundry area. So far no injuries have been reported, only material damage. Emergency units working on the scene.
“The brigades activated the protocol and in synergy with the Cancun firefighters, controlled the situation. No injuries reported.”
Authorities did not provide a cause for the fire.
