Cancun, Q.R. — A one-year-old child was found deceased Monday by Cancun police after responding to an Emergency 911 report.
Police arrived at a private home in SM 104 of Cancun early Monday after a 10-year-old girl called emergency services for help, saying her little sister was choking. When police arrived, they found the body of the deceased child laying in a hammock.
Cancun authorities reported that the child died of bronchoaspiration after choking on a candy. She was being taken care of by her 10-year-old sister.
Neighbors reported that the mother left early for work each day, leaving the eldest to take care of the youngest. The mother, Leticia N, works at a hotel on mainland Isla Mujeres. She said that she is a widow since last year and has her eldest child look after the others.
Two other children, two younger boys, were also in the home at the time. All three children have been temporarily moved to the attention of the municipal DIF.
