One killed, two injured after industrial truck hits Cancun cyclists

Cancun, Q.R. — One man was left dead and two more with injuries after an industrial truck hit a group of cyclists along a Cancun roadway.

According to the police report, the accident happened Monday around 7:00 a.m. on Huayacán Avenue in SM 308 along a stretch of roadway that connects the south of the city of Cancun with the bypass to the highway to Merida and the international airport.

Three people from the group were hit by a Freigtliner model truck that was being driven by Mario S.P.V. of Yucatan. Police indicate that the driver, by not taking into account the road conditions of the vehicle, lost control of his vehicle, colliding with three of they cyclists who have been identified as Gaspar M.G., Jair J.G., both 40 and 45-year-old Olivia A.R.

Paramedics arrived on scene to pronounce one and transfer the other two to hospital. Police report that one of the hit cyclists, 40-year-old Gaspar M.G. died at the scene. Gaspar was a IMSS doctor in Cancun.
