Cancun, Q.R. — Five people have been arrested in a Cancun bar shooting that left one dead and three, injured. Cancun public security head Lucio Hernández Gutiérrez, announced their arrests after the deadly shooting outside the Ginza bar in the city’s center Friday morning.
The trio were captured on video surveillance cameras getting out of a new-model taxi where they opened fire against the outside facade of the club. Four people were left with gunshot wounds. One of the injured later died in hospital.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) says those injured were 39-year-old Patricia G from Brazil, 25-year-old Diego C, a Cancun resident from Mexico City, 39-year-old Julio C from Veracruz, who was head of security at the Ginza bar and who received four gunshot wounds, and 40-year-old Ernesto Y from Toluca, who was shot in the leg and abdomen and later died in hospital.
Reports say at least three of the five taken into police custody belong to the New Generation Jalisco Cartel. Their arrests came after three gunmen opened fire against the outside of the Cancun Puerto club Friday around 2:00 a.m.
The detainees were transferred to facilities of the Secretariat of Public Security of Quintana Roo. It is the second shooting recorded against the building in as many days. Earlier in the week, the Televisa company office, located on the second floor, was hit by a spray of bullets. The glass of the office facade was damaged, however, there were no injuries.
The head of the State Attorney General’s Office, Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales, confirmed that the March 21 attack on Televisa was actually against the bar and that the damage to the television office was “collateral.”
