Officials report one dead and one injured in shooting outside Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — One dead and one injured was what was reported by the State Attorney General’s Office after a Thursday shooting outside Playa del Carmen. The agency stated that one man, originally from the state of Sinaloa, was killed after being shot by another on a motorcycle.

The Thursday evening shooting happened in an isolated parking lot along the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway. The injured man is a local taxi driver. He was taken for medical attention after being hit by a bullet in the leg.

Head of State Security, Lucio Hernández Gutiérrez, also reported the death of one of the men shot. Although both were transferred to hospital, he died shortly after arriving.

“Subject aboard a motorcycle injures a person who was in an isolated and little-used parking lot between the Tulum-Playa del Carmen federal highway, being transferred to a hospital where he dies. In addition, a taxi driver was injured in the leg,” he posted.

Hernández clarified that no tourists were affected and that search protocols for the person responsible were put into effect.

According to preliminary information, the now-deceased man was boarding a taxi next to a theme park parking area when he was shot at. The unidentified man was from Culiacán, Sinaloa. The motorcycle believed used in the shooting was found abandoned.
