‘No injured no armed people’ reported in Cancun Hotel Zone shooting

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun police have reported no injuries and no armed persons found in the afternoon shooting along Kukulkan Boulevard. Police were called to the scene at Kilometer 16 of the Cancun Hotel Zone after 12:30 p.m. reports of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, an area was secured and a search operation started for those responsible. Police have reported using city surveillance cameras to aid in their search. They have also said there were no injures reported, nor have they located any armed persons.

In a statement Monday afternoon, the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) said “the Secretariat of Citizen Security reports that at 12:30 Monday, a report of gunshots was received at kilometer 16 of Kukulkan Boulevard in the municipality of Benito Juarez.

“Immediately, protocols were activated and security agencies established perimeter operations, search and location in the area, with the help of C5 cameras. So far, the presence of armed people and injured people has been ruled out.

“Citizens are invited to stay informed through the official networks of the Government of Quintana Roo.”

According to local media, the shooting was aimed at a Cancun Hotel Zone beach vendor. Gunmen shot at the man repeatedly before fleeing the scene. The targeted man also fled before police arrived. Local authorities have neither confirmed nor denied those reports.
