Nine taken to hospital after Cancun highway accident

Cancun, Q.R. — Five adults and four children were injured in Cancun after a collision between a public transport collectivo and private vehicle. Emergency personnel attended to the 3:00 p.m. accident in the Arco Vial area of Cancun Sunday.

According to information from the Department of Traffic, the alleged person responsible for the accident was the driver of the TTE collectivo unit for invading the oncoming lane. The traffic report detailed that the the blue compact car, being driven by Marco N, was traveling on La Joya Avenue when the driver of the combi attempted to join the road, but instead, invaded the oncoming lane.

Both vehicles crashed head-on. The impact caused the combi to heave the highway and land facing in the opposite direction. The compact car was completely destroyed. The accident left nine with injuries.

All nine, including the drivers of both vehicles, were treated on site before being transferred to hospital. Highway lanes were closed for nearly two hours as police and rescue personnel dealt with the accident scene.
