Nine detained in Cancun construction site search operation after body found in nearby cenote

Cancun, Q.R. — Nine people were arrested from an under-construction building Friday after the discovery of a wrapped body. The body was found wrapped in plastic and dumped in a nearby cenote the day before.

Police were made aware of the body Thursday and proceeded to have it removed from the cenote after which time, they began a search operation.

During the operation Friday, police were escorted onto the construction site by National Guard. On site, nine people, drugs and at least one weapon was seized.

Local authorities have since confirmed the discovery of one male body and arrest of nine.

The search took place on a construction site in the Kusamil subdivision of Cancun near where the body was found.

Through a statement, the State Attorney General reported the body was found wrapped in black platic bags inside a cavity and that according to their first acts of investigation, the detainees are part of a criminal group dedicated to drug dealing.

They have not said if any of the nine arrested are believed related to, or responsible for, the death of the man located in the nearby cenote.
