Neighbors tip off police: Five held inside ’empty’ house rescued from kidnapping

Cancun, Q.R. —  A man remains in custody after being arrested for his involvement in the kidnapping of five people. Five women were found being held inside a house that appeared empty after police were tipped off by neighbors.

Cancun Police said all five women were found being held against their will and are receiving care and support since their rescue. They also said that one man was taken into custody in relation to their kidnapping.

Police arrived to a house that appeared empty and without activity from the outside. March 2, 2026.

The police rescue operation happened Monday afternoon in the Sol del Mayab residential area of Cancun. Police and military arrived at an address on Bolonchén Street in SM 56 in response to a 9-1-1 report.

When police arrived, the house appeared empty with no signs of activity, however, several neighbors approached police and explained there were women inside who came out only at night.

Neighbors saw them return to the house early the following mornings, something they found suspicious. Police entered the house at which time they found the women.

Five Colombian women between the ages of 18 and 25 were found inside. One man was arrested at the time of their rescue. He is believed related to their kidnapping.

Cancun Police reported “We rescued five women who were being held against their will; they are currently receiving comprehensive care and specialized support. A man was arrested and turned over to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General (FGE).”
