Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: Four people were found dead inside a Cancun apartment early Sunday morning. The discovery was made by neighbors inside a unit of the Paseos del Mar subdivision in Region 251.
Among the dead was an injured 8 year old girl. She was transferred to hospital.
Municipal Police found three men and one woman shot to death. Authorities were made aware of the shooting by neighbors who made the report around 2:00 a.m. According to early information, the adults in the apartment were up when armed men arrived and burst into the apartment.
According to neighbors, after threating the four adults, the armed men began shooting.
The attack happened in Building D on Isla Comores Street. Building neighbors who heard the gunfire called police. When the gunmen left, neighbors entered the apartment in response to the cries of the injured girl who they took to a hospital.
The severity of her injuries are unknown. Paramedics confirmed the death of the four adults inside the apartment. Forensic personnel were called in to remove the bodies.
UPDATE: In a public statement, local authorities said “with respect to the qualified homicide against four people resulting from an attack by firearm shots inside a home in Supermanzana 251, the first line of investigation is for a crime related to drug dealing.
“Likewise, in this attack a minor was injured whose health condition is reported as stable, so in the same way, the corresponding investigations are being carried out for the crime of attempted homicide.
“According to initial investigations, the evidence seized and witness testimony, the now deceased would be involved in drug related crimes. In addition, the property where the events occurred was used as a point of consumption of narcotics.
