Navy locates drugs and weapons in Cancun residential neighborhood check stop

Cancun, Q.R. — The Navy arrested two men and seized drugs, a long weapon and other objects during a check stop operation in Cancun. According to a statement from the Navy, the operation was carried out during ground surveillance patrols in the Los Héroes residential subdivision.

The detainees were aboard a vehicle, where after an inspection, personnel located a long weapon, five loaded magazines, 30 packages of green grass similar to marijuana (weighing approximately 14.5 kilograms) plus another four more packages of the same substance, a gram scale and three cell phones.

Authorities transferred the detainees, the vehicle and the seized objects to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo for further investigation.

The Navy reported that the operation was in coordination with municipal, state and federal government agencies to strengthen security, recover public spaces and weaken the logistical structures of criminal groups that generate violence in the region.
