Minors selling food outside Cancun grocery store removed from parents

Cancun, Q.R. — Specialized police in Cancun removed three kids from outside a shopping plaza after they were found selling food. It was near midnight when authorities located the three minors selling food outside a grocery store.

Personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Domestic and Gender Violence (Geavig) questioned the mother, who was known to them from previous calls. The parents, who were nearby, confirmed the children had been sent to sell pork rinds to help support the family.

Police from Geavig (Grupo Especializado de Atención a la Violencia Intrafamiliar y de Género) proceeded to remove the children from the parking lot. All three are between the ages of five and 11.

They were located by police in Mi Plaza Héroes after citizen reports of child exploitation. The parents will have to appear before state authorities to have their children returned.
