Military personnel stumble upon skeletal remains in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: Military personnel pursuing two men accidentally stumbled upon what are believed to be human remains. The skeleton of at least one person was found Wednesday in Cancun during a search for two escaped men.

The finding happened after military personnel lost two men they were pursuing on a motorcycle. The pursuit began along Rancho Viejo Avenue and ended in the area of the La Morena in SM 242 of Cancun where the pair ditched their bike and fled on foot.

While searching through the heavily treed area for the men, soldiers stumbled upon the remains.

The area was cordoned off for the State Attorney General’s Office to collect evidence and determine if they are indeed, human.

UPDATE: Authorities have determined that the remains found were that of an adult male. Authorities have reported that beside the body was a backpack. Inside the backpack was a firearm and drugs. The man was found with one bullet wound to the head.

The remains were located in brush about 150 meters from the nearest dirt road. Military personnel happened upon the deceased man while searching for two subjects on foot Wednesday. An official identification of the man remains unknown.
