Manhunt continues for escaped Cancun prisoner and those who allowed it to happen

Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities say an “exhaustive investigation” will be carried out to find those responsible for allowing an inmate to escape.

On Sunday, the head of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Raciel López Salazar, led a tour of the penitentiary after the Saturday afternoon escape of inmate Gilberto “N”.

Gilberto “N” was arrested in mid-October in relation to the rape and beating death of a two year old Cancun boy and the attempted murder of his six year old brother. Days after being imprisoned, Gilberto “N” escaped.

López Salazar said an exhaustive investigation will be carried out to find those responsible for allowing him to escape. The Cancun prison is outfitted with numerous security cameras. López Salazar visited the prison Sunday in order to review them.

López Salazar arrived at the Cancun prison with an entourage that included the Undersecretary of Citizen Security of the Northern Zone, Antonio Esteban Amador Peralta as well as public prosecutors, experts and investigative police from the FGE.

Cancun prison security footage is being reviewed to find how the inmate escaped.

López Salazar has not hidden his insinuations that the inmate was allowed to escape or had help. He has said they will do whatever it takes to find those responsible “in this event that does so much damage to society. No action or omission on the part of the penitentiary authorities will be tolerated.”

In order to obtain evidence, López Salazar reviewed monitoring cameras inside the prison in addition to supervising various sections of the penitentiary center. In the meantime, a manhunt continues for the recapture of Gilberto “N”.
