Man ordered to remain jailed after attempting to set woman on fire for refusing sex

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has ordered the suspect in an attempted femicide case to remain behind bars. Fredy “N”, will remain in preventive detention for a period of two years or as long as the process lasts, police announced.

Fredy “N” is accused of beating a woman then attempting to set her on fire for refusing to have sex with him.

Fredy “N” was arrested by elements of the Investigative Police assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating the Crime of Femicide, when he was escaping from the scene of the crime, Cancun police said.

“The suspect, identified as Fredy “N”, is accused of events that occurred on December 1, 2024, when he beat the victim for refusing to have sexual relations with him. He tried to take her life by spraying a flammable substance on her body. The victim managed to make a phone call and requested police assistance,” they reported in a public statement.

He was arrested while trying to flee the scene. On Thursday, Fredy “N” was officially charged with attempted femicide. “The court also imposed a precautionary measure of preventive detention for a period of two years or the duration of the proceedings,” police added.
