Cancun, Q.R. — A Thursday morning accident along a stretch of Auto Gas highway has left one dead and one injured. The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. when a unit being pulled by a truck became disconnected, hitting a vehicle.
The incident took place about two kilometres from José López Portillo Avenue outside Cancun when a portable generator being towed by a truck became detached. Reports say the truck was traveling at excessive speed when the accident happened. The detached generator, which was also traveling at a high rate of speed, slammed into the front of an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was killed instantly. His passenger was taken to hospital. The highway was closed for nearly two hours as authorities sifted through the accident and paramedics attended to the injured.
