Man gunned down inside Cancun barbershop identified as civilian not police

Cancun, Q.R. — A man shot and killed while inside a Cancun barbershop has been identified. The man, 32-year-old Gerardo “C” from the state of Guerrero, has been identified as a civilian and not a police officer.

Several local media had identified the now-deceased as an agent of the Ministerial Police due to an alleged piece of identification he was carrying. Gerardo “C” was shot numerous times Tuesday while inside the SM 51 barbershop.

Cancun police cordoned off the area to collect evidence while paramedics attended to the injured man who died at the scene. At least 14 shell casings were lifted from the street after two men on board a motorcycle opened fire.

Outside the barber shop, police also located the victim’s high-end car that was without license plates. His vehicle was towed from the Nichupté Avenue location. A motive for the shooting is not known.
