Cancun, Q.R. — The first day of Mexico’s long weekend began tragically with the drowning of a tourist. On Friday, a Cancun tourist was pronounced on a hotel zone beach after being pulled from the sea.
Lifeguards at Playa Delfines in the Cancun Hotel Zone attempted to revive 51-year-old Javier N after he was returned to the sand by other swimmers. The man was found in the sea by surfers and brought to shore where lifeguards tried to help him. Although he was attended to by medical personnel, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Sofia D, the sister of the now-deceased, was with her brother at the time. She said they live in Merida and were visiting Cancun for the long weekend. Javier N was pronounced dead on the beach Friday morning.
