Cancun, Q.R. — A man known locally for allegedly stealing vehicle batteries has been picked up by police. The arrest was made Thursday after a group of Cancun residents began organizing their own form of justice on social media.
Numerous cell phone videos had been posted by people watching him stalk vehicles from where he could quickly remove the battery. The man was allegedly known around Cancun for stealing batteries from vehicles in large parking lots.
After private cell phone videos of him went viral, residents began to organize a group to capture him, however, he was picked up by Cancun police first.
On Thursday, Cancun Police said “agents from the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit arrested Rey Armando “N” for disobedience. He drove negligently and assaulted the officers. He was placed at the disposal of the authorities.” No further comments were made.
