Local man dragged out to sea dies by drowning off Cancun Hotel Zone beach

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun paramedics pronounced a local man dead Friday night after being swept out to sea. The man was recovered from the water and returned to the sand at Playa Gaviota Azul after his family reported he had been swept out by the current.

Other swimmers began shouting when they saw the man’s body floating in the sea. Lifeguards were able to retrieve him and return him to shore where CPR efforts were applied, however, the man did not respond.

The deceased has been identified as 38 year old Luis “N” from Cancun. He was with his wife and extended family at the time of the accident.

Civil Protection lifeguards, police and agents from the State Attorney General’s Office were part of the emergency team responding to the report of the drowning. Luis “N” was reported swept out by the strong current after entering the water late Friday evening.
