Cancun, Q.R. — A group of six armed people were detained in region 62 of Cancun by elements of the Benito Juárez Municipal Police, one of which is believed to be the leader of a criminal group.
Police in Cancun made the arrest of Francisco N, a criminal gang leader, along with Rubí N, Argenis N, Daniel N, Candelaria N and a minor who are accused of drug-related crimes and violation of the federal firearms and explosives law.
Police in Cancun say the four men and two women were arrested after being found in possession of numerous firearms, ammunition and drugs. They reported that this was the second time that Francisco N has been arrested on drug and firearms charges.
He has been identified as the head of the Gulf Cartel cell Los Pelones, that authorities believe, has been operating in Quintana Roo for the past 10 years.
Police say the six were arrested when they discovered the drugs, cash and weapons during a vehicle inspection in SM 62 of Cancun.
