Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen reported on a large business palapa fire on Kukulcán Boulevard Saturday night. The fire was reported around 11:00 p.m. near the entrance to Playa Caracol.
Cancun firefighters and Civil Protection were on scene working to control and extinguish the fire, the Department reported late Saturday. The fire was reported at a business base in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Firemen said they were able to control the fire and prevent the spreading of flames despite strong winds. The fire was fully extinguished without any injuries.
“On Saturday evening, Cancun Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at a palapa-style establishment in the hotel zone.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure fully engulfed in flames. They immediately deployed containment and suppression maneuvers, prioritizing the prevention of the fire’s spread to other nearby palapas.
“Thanks to the rapid intervention and coordinated efforts, the fire was largely brought under control within minutes. Crews are continuing their work to fully extinguish the blaze and eliminate any remaining risks.
“No injuries were reported.
“The operation was carried out in coordination with various authorities and emergency services, as well as with the support of water supply units to reinforce the firefighting efforts at the scene.
“This type of emergency reminds us of the importance of prevention and safety measures in businesses, especially those with flammable materials,” Bomberos Cancun reported in a statement.
State Civil Protection also reported on the “palapa fire at kilometer 9 of Kukulcan Boulevard under control, no injuries reported.
“It is reported that the fire at a palapa has been completely controlled by emergency crews. No injuries have been reported.
“Firefighters from Benito Juárez, in coordination with Civil Protection and other emergency services, remain at the scene conducting final cooling and verification operations.”
According to available information, the fire happened at the Xcaret company base located in the Cancun Hotel Zone. A cause for the palapa fire has not yet been determined.
