Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun police carried out an eviction operation in a city suburb over the weekend. The operation was in response to reports of people attempting to take over city land.
Police were sent to thwart that attempted land invasion after the group began removing vegetation.
The attempted invasion triggered the eviction operation off Galaxias del Sol Avenue in Cancun Saturday after a group of people were seen manually clearing the land Friday. Despite being told to leave by police, the invaders refused to peacefully vacate.
In repones, dozens of officers were deployed to proceed with the eviction. The large operation lead to the temporary closure of Galaxias del Sol Avenue in Cancun while police carried out the Saturday morning eviction.
People from around the country continue to arrive in the state, taking over what they believe to be ‘up-for-grabs’ land. These invaded areas, of which there are currently hundreds around Quintana Roo, leave municipalities to deal with the invasions.
