Judge hands down 37 year prison sentence for motorcycle murder

Cancun, Q.R. — Two men who shot the owner of a motorcycle to death in order to steal it have been sentenced. On Tuesday, a Cancun judge sentenced both men to more than 37 years in prison.

Israel Antonio Llarenas Villa and Raúl José Abreus Figueredo were handed down 37 years and six months in prison during an oral trial hearing Tuesday.

The State Attorney General (FGE) said they obtained a guilty verdict against both men for aggravated homicide.

“The events for which they were sentenced occurred in January 2022, when the victim received a message from an unknown number in which he was informed that the motorcycle that had previously been stolen from him was at a residence located in Supermanzana 107 of the Paraíso Maya subdivision,” the FGE said in a statement.

“Subsequently, the victim went to the indicated location and found his motorcycle, however, the two individuals arrived at the scene in a car. Immediately afterward, they subdued the victim and Raúl José Abreus Figueredo shot him with a firearm,” they reported.

The victim, who has not been named, was a city of Cancun employee.
