Cancun, Q.R. — An elderly Cancun pedestrian was killed Monday when he was struck by a car. City police were called to the scene by the driver after the accident on José López Portillo Avenue.
Responding officers found the man laying in the middle of the road. Witnesses reportedly told police the man was crossing José López Portillo Avenue when the private car struck him.
The man, who has not been identified, was reported jaywalking when he was hit. The female driver of the car, who according to witnesses was unable to avoid hitting him, stopped and called for help. Paramedics confirmed the man was dead at the scene. The woman was treated for shock.
Cancun police cordoned off the area, reducing vehicular traffic to a single lane while they investigated and the coroner removed the body.
