Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen used the jaws of life to free the driver of a company vehicle. The driver was left trapped inside his van after slamming into a tree. The accident happened on a section of roadway in the western part of Cancun Friday night.
Firemen were requested at the scene near the Chiapaneca residential area of the city by accident witnesses. Elements of the Cancun Fire Department were on site along with Red Cross paramedics and Civil Protection.
The man was eventually cut free from the front of his crumpled vehicle and transferred to Cancun hospital. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident which includes excessive speed and distraction while driving.
In a note, the Cancun Fire Department said “the team from the Cancun Fire Department, in close coordination with the paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross Cancun Delegation and elements of Civil Protection Cancun, responded to the emergency call after the report of a vehicle accident on the highway near the Chiapaneca neighborhood.

“The incident involved a driver whose vehicle skidded off the road, leaving him trapped inside the vehicle. Upon arrival, a quick assessment of the scene was carried out to ensure the safety of the affected person and the rescue team.
“Using specialized tools such as a cutter and hydraulic separator, we proceeded to extract the driver’s vehicle, ensuring that he received immediate attention from the paramedics. Thanks to constant training and teamwork, the maneuver was carried out successfully, allowing the affected person to be stabilized and transferred by elements of the Cancun Red Cross to receive medical attention.
