Investigation started into drug related beating death of Cancun taxi driver

Cancun, Q.R. — The State Attorney General (FGE) has started an investigation into the drug related beating death of a Cancun taxi driver. The man was rushed to a Cancun hospital Friday by friends after being found severely beaten.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver has been identified as 40-year-old Martin “A”. According to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), the beating death of the city taxi driver was drug related.

“The FGE of Quintana Roo reports that the first investigations into the qualified homicide of a male person, a taxi driver by trade, indicate that this event is drug related,” they reported Friday.

“This Social Representation opened an investigation to clarify the events that occurred Friday morning on Kukulcán Boulevard in Cancun. It should be noted that the victim lost his life when he was transferred to a hospital in the city, after suffering various injuries.

“The Prosecutor’s Office, in coordination with security authorities, is working to find the person or persons responsible for this event,” the state agency said.

The incident happened Friday morning in the Cancun Hotel Zone after, according to local reports, the man was abducted the night before. Martin “A” provided taxi service in the nightclub area of the hotel zone.

His colleagues reported loosing contact with him Thursday night which initiated a search. During their search, they found his empty unit. It was not until Friday morning that they found him in the nightclub area after being severely beaten.
