Cancun, Q.R. — The National Institute of Migration (INM) says Cancun International is the most busy airport in the country and also the main point of entry. During his Wednesday visit, INM Commissioner Francisco Garduño Yáñez reported over 13.7 million people have used the airport during the 2022-2023 tourist season.
He said that it is considered the main point of entry into Mexico followed by the Mexico City International Airport.
Garduño Yáñez said that since the E-Gates became operational in Mexico City and Cancun in December of 2022, 824,233 people have used them. Of that figure, 568,619 or 70 percent were in Cancun and 255,614 or 30 percent in Mexico City.
Garduño Yáñez was at the Cancun International Airport this week to supervise and evaluate migration flows. His stop was part of a regional tour due to the significant increase in passengers.
“In the first four months of this year, the entry of people into Mexican territory through its 66 international airports and 535 migration verification filters increased by 31.9 percent,” he reported from Terminal III of the Cancun International Airport.
He says Cancun International is considered the main point of entry into the country with 13,736,495 tourists in the 2022-2023 period followed by the Mexico City International with 10,555,845.
