Industrial truck collides head on with Cancun taxi sending five to hospital

Cancun, Q.R. — Five people were rushed to Cancun hospital early Sunday from a two vehicle crash. The accident happened on Arco Norte Avenue when the taxi driver attempted to turn left onto a side road.

The Cancun cab was hit nearly head-on by an oncoming industrial truck. All five people from inside the taxi were injured. Police, paramedics and city firemen were sent after receiving a report of the collision.

Medical personnel removed the taxi driver and four passengers from inside the cab for hospital transfer. The driver of the industrial unit was not injured. Cancun firemen stayed behind to help with roadway cleanup due to chemical spills from the car.

In a statement, Bomberos Cancun reported “a traffic Incident on Arco Norte Avenue. This morning, members of our Honorable Fire Department provided assistance and support during a traffic incident that occurred on Arco Norte Avenue.

“The incident involved a public service taxi, resulting in five injuries. Thanks to the rapid response and coordination of emergency units, those affected were immediately transported to receive timely medical attention.

“The joint work of emergency services is essential to safeguarding the safety of citizens. We want to recognize the efforts of everyone involved in responding to this emergency. Drive carefully and obey road signs to avoid accidents! Your safety and that of others is paramount. Serve and Protect!” Bomberos Cancun.

Authorities attending the scene did not provide information on who was considered at fault or if any arrests were made.
