Imoveqroo meets with Tulum taxi union to start on mobility improvements

Tulum, Q.R. — Municipal authorities met Tuesday with the taxi union to move forward in planning better mobility around the Tulum. On Tuesday, Renan Enrique Pérez of Imoveqroo, met with the Tulum taxi union to plan public transportation.

Officials from the Quintana Roo State Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) carried out a technical tour to strengthen inter-institutional coordination. They also evaluated what needs to be done to ensure ongoing improvement.

Renan Enrique Pérez who heads the Tulum branch of the Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo), met with mobility officials Tuesday.

Municipal Mobility Director, Josué Chimal Chimal and the Municipal Transit Director Yessica Orozco, toured areas with Manuel Enrique Solís Alcocer, the General Secretary of the “Tiburones del Caribe” Taxi Drivers Union.

During the tour they visited the union’s User Service Center and the intercity bus terminal. The terminal is currently being implemented as part of their efforts to organize and improve transportation operations in the area.

Surveillance systems will be installed in Tulum taxis as part of the mobility update February 3, 2026.

Officials also oversaw the installation of video surveillance in a Tulum taxi. The group observed the demonstration of what the surveillance system will provide once officially installed.

Enrique Pérez said the surveillance is a technological option aimed at strengthening security, operational efficiency and the user experience, from a technical and mobility planning perspective.

He said these tours are part of an institutional strategy of technical dialogue, support and evaluation, which allows them to learn about projects in development.

They are also able to analyze their viability and strengthen coordination with municipal authorities within the powers established by the Mobility Law of the State of Quintana Roo.

Last week, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo said Tulum will have an intercity bus terminal and new taxis with security cameras and digital pay systems.

He said Tulum’s new mobility plan also includes the addition of modern vehicles and better organized taxi stands. Tulum taxis will be outfitted with a digital payment option, security cameras and translation apps for non-Spanish speaking passengers.
