Cancun, Q.R. — Two people were killed Sunday when the young male driver of a car slammed into a metal safety bollard. The single vehicle crash happened on Colosio Boulevard early Sunday morning.
Emergency services were sent to the site on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard around 3:00 a.m. where a black BMW was found embedded in a piece of city infrastructure. The male driver of the car hit a concrete-filled safety bollard at a high rate of speed.
The infrastructure belonged to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) which was in place to protect a concrete utility pole. During the crash, two youths in the front seat, both males, were killed. Two more people from the back seats were seriously injured.

Witnesses who saw the crash and called 9-1-1, telling police afterward that the driver was seen speeding along the boulevard in the heavy rain when he lost control and hit the metal structure.
