Cancun, Q.R. — A combination of heavy rain and bad driving has created chaos on Cancun streets. Numerous vehicles were involved in various fender benders around the city in less than 24 hours.
On Wednesday night, traffic on Colosio Boulevard in front of the APQ facilities was clogged after a city bus and city Transit patrol truck collided. The accident happened in the northbound lane heading toward Playa del Carmen. Traffic Police officers went to the scene to deal with the situation. There were no injuries reported.
Around 10:44 a.m. Thursday, city police were notified of an accident on Chac Mool Avenue. The driver of a private car lost control while taking a corner. His vehicle ended hitting a fixed object after he swerved.
Police found his car on a city sidewalk. No injuries were reported. The corresponding authorities went to the scene to carry out the necessary assessment. Traffic was slowed in the area while the car was being removed.
On Thursday morning, Cancun Transit were sent to Colosio Boulevard after reports a traffic accident near the Universidad Tecnológica (UT) heading south. Holiday traffic was affected during the 11:30 a.m. rollover of a company food truck.
The single vehicle accident involved a white Isuzu whose driver lost control after hitting a mound of dirt which caused it to roll over. Traffic officers and emergency personnel arrived to clear the scene. No injuries were reported.
On Thursday afternoon, a mega accident also on Colosio Boulevard left one driver injured. Four vehicles were involved in the major fender bender near Plaza Santa Fe around 12:25 p.m.
Cancun Transit reported the driver of a white Toyota Avanza vehicle, traveling north, lost control and went over the central median. In his path, he collided with three vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Avanza was injured and transferred to hospital. Cancun Transit were left to deal with the multi crash scene that left lanes in both directions of the city’s busy boulevard completely shut.
Cancun Transit are asking drivers to take extreme caution, especially on stretches with curves and during adverse weather conditions due to the wet weather.
The rain began around the Cancun – Riviera Maya region late Wednesday night, around the same time as city car accidents. While there was a break in the wet weather, rains picked up again for most of Thursday, as did car crunches around the city of Cancun.
