Cancun, Q.R. — At least five subdivisions of Cancun were left without electricity after heavy machinery made contact with underground cables. The accident was reported Friday when a backhoe was attempting to perform excavation work.
In doing so, underground wires were accidentally cut, leaving at least five large residential areas in the dark. The backhoe was attempting to demolish old real estate near Misión Villamar when the incident occurred. Residents in the Villamar, Las Palmas and Cataluña residential areas were all effected.
Cancun firemen were called to the site, as were CFE personnel. Firemen cordoned off the area while they waited for CFE to arrive and resolve the problem.
