Heart attack determined to be official cause of death in Cancun Hotel Zone pool drowning

Cancun, Q.R. — A heart attack has been determined as the official cause of death of a tourist from a hotel pool. Emergency services were requested at a Cancun Hotel Zone pool where a tourist was reported unconsciousness.

Paramedics arrived at the hotel only to confirm the woman, a national tourist, was dead. Her body was transferred for an autopsy that has since confirmed a heart attack.

The incident happened Sunday around noon at a hotel located at kilometer 2.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard. According to preliminary information, the report of a possible drowning was received through the 911 emergency number.

Paramedics, Civil Protection and Tourist Police responded to the report. Upon entering the area, paramedics found the woman lying on the side of the pool surrounded by hotel staff trying to help her.

There, paramedics confirmed she no longer had vital signs. Pool guests said the woman simply collapsed after getting out of the water. She had been swimming and got out to walk to a lounge chair when she lost consciousness.
