Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two island men were killed Sunday after crashing their motorcycles head on. While police were sent to the scene of what was believed to be a routine Isla Mujeres traffic accident, officers ended up requesting the coroner.
The accident happened on a coastal road outside the parking area of a condominium complex where the two motorcycles carrying a total of three people collided. Paramedics pronounced the two males dead at the scene.
According to Municipal Police, the third person, a female passenger, was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Officers arrived to the site where they found both motorcycles laying on the road in pieces. Investigators located numerous items scattered around the accident scene including footwear and two half helmets that were knocked off both drivers in the crash.
The deceased have not been publicly identified.
