Cancun, Q.R. — The State Secretariat for Public Security says they have identified the group of people who have been motivating others to loot due to the current coronavirus situation.
Alberto Capella, Secretary of Public Security says they have found the identity of the 23 social media profiles who, through social networks, incite looting and vandalism
“Derived from cyber patrol, 23 profiles have been detected inciting looting and vandalism. Nine criminal complaints have been filed against the holders of these accounts and the others are in process,” reported Capella.
The announcement came after messages began to circulate on social networks inviting people to organize the looting of commercial establishments, which motivated municipal, state and federal authorities to investigate.
Authorities say the social media groups discuss their planning to loot self-service stores, inviting others to become organized and join. Capella says they are working on arrests.
