Green Units arrest six in Cancun for unloading construction material onto public space

Cancun, Q.R. — Six citizens caught throwing construction waste in a city green area have been arrested. The six were arrested Friday night in two separate incidents after they were found unloading waste and debris.

According to Cancun City Hall, a group of four men were seen dumping construction waste onto a public road. Two more were arrested later that same night for unloading construction material in a green area.

Their arrests are the latest in the permanent operation carried out by the Green Units for Comprehensive Solid Waste Solutions (Siresol) in coordination with the Municipal Secretariat for Citizen Security (SSCM).

“At around 6:30 p.m. Friday, personnel from the agency surprised the first four men in Supermanzana 525 on Avenue Fonatur throwing debris on the public road who were aboard a wine-colored Dodge Dakota pickup truck.

“The citizens tried to escape when they saw that the Green Patrol members were approaching the scene, however, they were intervened,” the City reported in a statement.

They were informed of the administrative violation corresponding to Article 61 of the Civic Justice Regulations for the Municipality of Benito Juárez.

Later, at 7:34 p.m., the Green Patrol noticed two men, aged 50 and 35, throwing two packages of construction waste weighing approximately 60 kilograms into a green area. They were also arrested for violating regulations.

“In both cases, the corresponding procedures were carried out to make the arrest so that they could be brought before a civic judge and the respective vehicle was taken to the impound lot,” the City said.
