Cancun, Q.R. — Rescue and emergency services of Cancun were called to the scene of a gas explosion in a home Tuesday. A woman was reported to have suffered burns and was taken to a hospital by neighbors.

The explosion happened around 2:15 p.m. yesterday when residents of SM 330 reported the explosion and subsequent fire. Cancun firemen were at the address on block 44 after receiving the call.
Personnel from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic were first on scene followed by the Cancun fire department and Civil Protection. Paramedics were called after the occupant of the home, a woman, was found burned.
Due to the severity of her injuries, neighbors rushed her to hospital instead of waiting for an ambulance.
The fire started in the laundry room of the home. Civil Protection and responding firemen found the blast was the result of an accumulation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in a leaking pipe.
Civil Protection were on scene again Wednesday to determine if the house is still livable after the explosion.
