Cancun, Q.R. — Leaders of a criminal group believed responsible for several Cancun Hotel Zone murders have been arrested. The man and two women who are said leaders of the group were served arrest warrants in Merida.
According to Quintana Roo authorities, all three were wanted for a variety of criminal offences that include homicide, extortion and drug dealing in Cancun. They were taken into custody Wednesday in the neighboring state of Yucatan after an ongoing investigation by both Quintana Roo and Yucatan police.
“After various cabinet investigation work, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Navy, Army, National Guard, State Attorney General’s Office, FGE of Yucatan and Secretariat of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo located and serve an arrest warrant, in the city of Merida, against three people, including the leader of a criminal gang dedicated to homicide, extortion and drug dealing, in this municipality,” Quintana Roo authorities said.
Detained are Zacarías “N”, alias “Skiny”, who leads a criminal group. Brenda Estefanía “N”, the girlfriend of “Skiny” and holder of a bank card in which the money from extortions was deposited and Mariana Guadalupe “N”, holder of another card in which she also received the proceeds of extortions.

In a statement, authorities reported that Zacarías “N” had three arrest warrants for the crime of homicide. The first for ordering the killing of a male on May 31 of this year. One more for the homicide of a minor on August 6, and another one that occurred on October 2 against a male. All of these at different points on Kukulcán Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Zacarías “N” is allegedly related to various events that could constitute the crime of extortion since in complicity with other subjects, he demanded money in establishments as well as from merchants, street vendors, tour sellers and jet ski rental companies, they said.
The investigations carried out by Quintana Roo authorities also relate the criminal gang to the sale of various narcotics in various points of the municipality of Benito Juárez.

“In addition to the three detainees in Mérida, this social representation previously provided the necessary evidence to link three members of the criminal group led by alias “Skiny” to the process for the crime of qualified homicide. They are Daniel “N”, Pablo Fernando “N” and Adriana María “N”,” they added in their statement.
Following their arrests in Merida, Yucatan, Zacarías “N”, Brenda Estefanía “N” and Mariana Guadalupe “N” were transferred to Cancun where they were admitted to the Social Reintegration Center.
