Cancun, Q.R. — Another suspect in the aggravated kidnapping of a Cancun victim has been tracked down and arrested. Police said Monday that Brayan Asaf “N” was arrested on an outstanding warrant in the state of Chihuahua.
The 33 year old was wanted in connection to the 2023 kidnapping of a Cancun mechanic who they kidnapped from his shop. According to the State Attorney General (FGE), his capture and subsequent return to the state of Quintana Roo was in collaboration with the Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office.
“The events for which Brayan Asaf “N” is likely responsible occurred on November 14, 2023 when he allegedly went to the Las Islas subdivision in SM 216, driving a Vento-type vehicle. At that location, the victim was leaving his mechanic shop and heading towards his car,” Quintana Roo police reported.
“The investigation indicates that Brayan Asaf “N” got out of the vehicle along with another accomplice. Both were allegedly carrying firearms. The men reportedly ran toward the victim, threatened him, and forced him into his own vehicle.”
In their report, the FGE said the victim was taken to a property near the Arco Norte highway where he was held captive. “During this time, his family received calls demanding five million pesos for his release. The family paid 400,000 pesos, and the victim was freed on November 15 near the Mi Plaza Héroes shopping center.”
Brayan Asaf “N” was taken into custody in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua and has since been transferred to Cancun to face charges.
Three other people police have identified as José Alfredo Gómez Trinidad, Edgar Fernando Andrade González and Denis Ángel Rodríguez Galván have already been sentenced for their roles in the kidnapping.
