Cancun, Q.R. — A group of angry residents from SM 227 in Cancun demanded the return of their electricity after a 12 hour outage. Chanting “We need light!” residents blocked the street demanding the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) resolve the issue.

Residents reported losing their power around 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning, and that by nightfall, they were still without electricity. Residents expressed their frustration after numerous reports to the CFE throughout the day regarding the failed power supply.
In response to the non-response from CFE, a large group blocked 18th Street near Tulum Avenue with rocks, sticks and tires, demanding a solution. The closure, which was peaceful, was monitored by city police and transit to divert traffic.
Residents reported that in their multiple calls to the CFE, staff only told them the problem was due to a damaged transformer or cables, but throughout the day, no one from the CFE came to verify the problem.
As the night wore on and the crowd of angry residents grew larger, a CFE truck finally arrived after more than 12 hours after the first report of the Sunday morning outage.
