Cancun, Q.R. — Dozens of upset residents took to various streets in Cancun Thursday protesting the ongoing power outages. Major arteries including Tules Avenue, Kabah, Coba Avenue and Politécnico were some of those affected.
Angry residents took to the street demanding the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) speed up work to resume service. The power outages have meant not only a lack of electracy, but also a lack of water since the city’s water pumps rely on power to distribute.
Residents in SM 26 in central Cancun were also protesting the ongoing power problem. A large group took to a major artery Thursday night in frustration out of what they said, was a lack of response by the CFE to resolve the power problem.
Cancun Transit were on site due to traffic chaos in the area. More than 120,000 people in and around the Cancun area were left without electricity with the passing of Helene.
The Governor has since reported a 94 percent restoration rate in electrical services.
