Cancun, Q.R. — A man who was found deceased in his Cancun apartment Saturday was stabbed to death, say authorities.
The head of the State Attorney General’s Office Óscar Montes de Oca Rosales, reported their findings in a press conference, explaining that the victim, 65-year-old Regis Nicolau from Montpelier, France, was found dead in his apartment. He added that the death is not being treated as an accident, noting there were traces of violence and that they are now seeking those responsible.
Although the death was initially reported as a home accident, de Oca Rosales confirmed it was a homicide with two lines of investigation, one of theft and the other of a passionate affair.
According to information from the Prosecutor’s Office, first investigations revealed the body had at least 37 injuries. The body was identified by the victim’s friend who is the French Honorary Consul in Cancun.
“The French Ambassador to Mexico clarifies that the Honorary Consul of Cancun is unrelated to the victim,” says Carole Simonnet, a press attaché of the French Embassy in Mexico City.
The body of Nicolau was discovered Saturday morning in his Villas Playa Blanca apartment in Region 85 of Cancun.
