Four vehicle crunch reduces Cancun mid-week traffic to slow crawl

Cancun, Q.R. — A section of Cancun’s busy thoroughfare was reduced to a crawl late Wednesday morning. Four vehicles collided along on López Portillo Avenue, prompting the arrival of emergency services.

One of the involved vehicles was pushed part way under a cargo truck.

The four-vehicle crunch was the result of an initial rear end that finally ended with a red car being pushed part way under a cargo truck. Three of the four vehicles involved suffered major damage.

The chain reaction collision happened just before noon due to, according to officials, “a driver failing to maintain a safe distance” between vehicles.

Cancun City Hall confirmed four vehicles were involved and that there were no trapped drivers or injuries sustained.

“The Cancun Fire Department responded to an accident on López Portillo Avenue involving four vehicles.

“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that no one was trapped or injured and the area was secured by disconnecting the batteries to prevent any fire risk.

“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Cancun Traffic Police and emergency medical services, the situation was brought under control without further complications.

“We remind you to drive with caution, respect speed limits and maintain a safe following distance,” Ayuntamiento (City Hall) de Benito Juárez posted.
