Fonatur to begin wastewater project for Pok-Ta-Pok in Cancun Hotel Zone

Cancun, Q.R. — Fonatur will begin the rehabilitation of water services in part of the Cancun Hotel Zone. The agency was handed the 1.7 million peso contract which will give them until June 30 to make the changes.

The project will see the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) replace recirculation lines of modules 3, 4 and 5 of the Pok-Ta-Pok wastewater treatment plant at Kilometer. 7.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone.

According to project specs, the Pok-Ta-Pok WWTP wastewater treatment plant came into service in 1974 and works based on secondary aerobic biological treatment with a capacity of 245 l/s.

The federal agency will also likely take on other Cancun Hotel Zone infrastructure projects including the conservation of green areas, roads, public lighting, sidewalks, garrisons, garbage collection and the maintenance of Playa Langosta. They could also take on maintenance of the public park at Kilometer Zero at the entrance to the hotel zone.
