Cancun, Q.R. — Five people were sent to hospital Monday night after a two-vehicle crash in Cancun. The accident took place near the Cancun International Airport around 7:30 p.m. between a cargo truck and passenger transport van.
Emergency 911 was alerted to the accident by other motorists. Police and rescue personnel were on site to attend to the situation, which created massive traffic congestion.
Several ambulances arrived along with firemen, Civil Protection personnel, elements of the National Guard and Quintana Roo police. Both vehicles, which hit head-on, were located in highway side brush.
While police managed the flow of traffic, rescue personnel were busy removing people from inside the mangled vehicles. From inside the cargo truck, one man was transported to hospital.
Inside the transport van, emergency bodies removed three passengers and their driver. All five were transferred to various hospitals with undisclosed injuries.
