Firemen evacuate area during weekend commercial fire in Cancun plaza

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen arrived to a commercial plaza fire Saturday. The inside of the store had just began to flare up when they arrived.

Firemen were quick to put out the fast moving flames, however, despite efforts, the store suffered extensive inside damage. The Cancun Fire Department said they were notified of the fire Saturday at which time they evacuated the area.

The weekend commercial plaza fire is believed started due to an electrical failure.

Flames had just started when the Cancun fire department showed up. April 18, 2026.

“On April 18, Cancun Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at a commercial premises located in a city shopping center. Upon arrival, personnel detected smoke emanating from the establishment.

“A controlled entry was conducted to ensure safe access, revealing a small fire in the counter area. The fire was quickly extinguished, preventing its spread to other premises.

“As a preventative measure, the affected area was evacuated, followed by ventilation and inspection, which ruled out any additional risks. No injuries were reported.

“The incident resulted in material damage from smoke and radiation to the premises’ furniture and merchandise. The response was carried out in coordination with Civil Protection and shopping center staff, who recommended that business operations not resume until all smoke has been completely eliminated.

“We remind everyone of the importance of checking electrical installations and unplugging equipment when not in use. In case of any emergency, report it immediately to the official number 911,” they said.
