Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen rushed to put out a brush fire in the hotel zone Sunday evening after reports of smoke. Emergency services were requested at Pok Ta Pok after thick smoke was seen coming from an area of dried vegetation.
Firemen located the smoking brush around 5:00 p.m. on the Nichupte lagoon side near the Pok Ta Pok residential area entrance.
Responding firemen said the burned area was approximately 30 x 30 meters and an abundance of dry grass was responsible for the thick smoke.
The smoke could been seen for several kilometers, including from across the lagoon.
Firemen were at the scene less than 30 minutes to put out the burning brush. They did not provide a possible cause for the early evening fire.
